Clothes, Winter Accessories, and Toys to be Distributed to Special Needs Families Impacted by Hurricane Sandy

On Monday, December 17, Special Needs Network, Inc. (SNN) Founder & President Areva Martin, Esq., will join Wake Up for Autism Founder & CEO Jodi Gomes, Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Autism Advocate and star of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New Jersey Jacqueline Laurita, and other East Coast autism organizations in Newark, NJ to distribute donations collected from the clothing and toy drive to support special needs families impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

Distribution will begin at 11:30 am at the John F. Kennedy School, a school for students with autism and related developmental disabilities from the ages of 10 to 21. All donation beneficiaries are families of students who currently attend the school.

“We are so grateful to everyone who contributed to this effort,” said Martin, “Parents helping parents is advocacy at its finest.”

Spearheaded by Special Needs Network, Inc. and in collaboration with Wake Up for Autism and HollyRod Foundation, the Hurricane Sandy Relief Drive kicked off on November 2 and was quickly met with warm response from families and autism organizations in Los Angeles. To date, clothes, warm winter accessories, and toys together worth thousands of dollars have been collected and are ready to be distributed.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of our collective Sandy Relief for special needs families. People don’t understand how costly sensory toys and clothing can be,” said Gomes, “To be able to replace those items and more, lost during Hurricane Sandy is not only our pleasure, but civic duty.”
